As a sisterhood organization, we know the importance of asking for help is just as vital as offering it when you can. In Kappa, we can’t think of a better way to seek support than through Rose McGill Grants. Kappas receive need-based financial assistance when life puts them in unfortunate, sometimes devastating, situations.
One of our collegiate sisters applied for a Rose McGill Grant in fall 2020. At the time, her family was dealing with the loss of its primary household income. She was worried about her future and upcoming tuition payments, which she knew her parents were unable to pay. “I am a nursing student, so the idea of taking a year off was frightening to me,” she says.
She reached out to the university financial aid office but there was nothing they could do midyear. Feeling hopeless and facing the reality that she may have to take a semester off, she contacted her chapter’s Finance Adviser, who told her about emergency Rose McGill Grants from the Kappa Foundation. She quickly learned that a Rose McGill Grant would help pay her tuition. “Without the Rose McGill Grant, I would not have been able to continue my nursing program as planned,” she says. “This was one of the many blessings Kappa has given me.”
